How it works, examples, limits and sources behind the tool.
The converter uses fixed factors against the International System of Units (SI). Length is based on the metre: 1 mile = 1.609344 km and 1 foot = 0.3048 m. Weight is based on the kilogram: 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg and 1 ounce = 28.349523125 g. Temperature uses a linear formula: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32.
Pick a quantity, type the number, and read the other column. Factors do not change with the date. The luggage calculator is the right place for linear centimetres and approximate litres; this page only converts one unit into another.
A 10 km hike is about 6.2137 mi; a 20-inch case is about 50.8 cm tall; 100°F is about 37.8°C. The converter gives these directly, which is handy when shopping, packing or reading road signs.
A 23 kg checked-bag cap is about 50.7 lb. A US recipe at 350°F is about 177°C. A UK speed limit of 70 mph is about 113 km/h. Round for a sign or a label; keep more decimals only when a specification sheet asks for them.
Use it for distances and speed limits while travelling, dimensions and weights while shopping, weights in the gym, and English-language recipes or product manuals.
Use it when an airline page mixes cm and inches, or a pharmacy label mixes mg and a household spoon. It does not convert fluid ounces to millilitres — that is volume, which this tool does not list.
The most common mistake is treating oz (weight) and fl oz (volume) as the same unit. Another is using the mile/kilometre factor for feet/metres, or forgetting that temperature conversion is an offset, not a ratio: 0°C is not 0°F.
Mixing stone and kilograms, or treating a US ton and a tonne as equal, also slips through. For bags, converting one edge from inches to centimetres is not the same as linear size (the sum of three edges).
Conversion factors follow the official definitions in the SI Brochure published by BIPM. Results are rounded to a limited number of decimals for everyday use; use exact calculations for trade, medical or legal purposes.
The tool does not apply airline rounding rules, kitchen spoon approximations, or clothing size charts. Those are product conventions on top of SI.
Length (m, km, ft, mi), weight (g, kg, lb, oz) and temperature (°C / °F). Pick a category first so units stay in the same family.
Celsius and Fahrenheit are an affine conversion, not a simple multiply. 0 °C is 32 °F, not 0.
Use the luggage calculator for three-side sums and litres. This page is one quantity at a time.
