How Russia's calendar works
- There are 14 non-working public holidays under Article 112 of the Labour Code: 1–6 and 8 January (New Year holidays), 7 January (Orthodox Christmas), 23 February, 8 March, 1 May, 9 May, 12 June and 4 November.
- When a weekend day coincides with one of these holidays, the day off moves to the next working day after the holiday. The weekends that fall on the January holidays are the exception: the government moves those to other dates in the same year.
- The government can also move other days off to make longer breaks. Its decree for the coming year must be published at least a month before the year begins, and is usually signed in September.
- A Saturday or Sunday whose day off has been moved elsewhere becomes a working day. In 2027 this happens on Saturday 20 February, which makes a six-day working week.
- Under Article 95, the working day immediately before a non-working holiday is one hour shorter. Which day is shortened when days off have been moved is set in the published production calendar, so we list those days as published.

2028: not published yet
The decree moving next year's days off is usually signed in September and must be published at least a month before the year starts. We add it once it is out; until then, dates in that year show as not published.
What these dates don't cover
- Regional holidays. Some republics, such as Tatarstan and Bashkortostan, declare extra regional non-working days.
- Other work schedules. These calendars are for the standard five-day week; six-day weeks and shift work follow different rules.
- Time zones. Russia spans eleven time zones. The tool decides what "today" is using Moscow time (UTC+3).
Questions
- Is 31 December always a day off in Russia?
- No. It is not a public holiday. In 2026 and 2027 it is a day off because the government moved a January weekend day there.
- Why does February 2027 have a six-day week?
- The day off from Saturday 20 February was moved to Monday 22 February to make a three-day break around Defender of the Fatherland Day on 23 February. That Saturday is worked and is also one hour shorter.
- When will the 2028 dates be known?
- When the government signs the decree, usually in September 2027. The law requires it at least a month before the year begins.
- Do Russia's holidays overlap with China's?
- Rarely. Russia's longest break is the New Year holidays in early January; China's is the Spring Festival, usually in late January or February. Check both before planning deliveries.
