How Taiwan's holidays work
- Days off are set by the Memorial Days and Festivals Act (紀念日及節日實施條例), amended in May 2025. Six memorial days are days off — 1 January, 28 February, 28 September, 10 October, 25 October and 25 December — plus five days for Lunar New Year and one day each for Children's Day, Tomb Sweeping Day, Labour Day, the Dragon Boat Festival, Teachers' Day (the same date as Confucius' Birthday) and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
- A holiday that falls on a Saturday is given on the previous working day; one that falls on a Sunday is given on the next working day. Lunar New Year has its own, more flexible rule. New Year's Day 2028 is a Saturday, so Friday 31 December 2027 is a day off.
- Neither the 2026 nor the 2027 calendar has a weekend working day: unlike mainland China, Taiwan does not swap weekends to lengthen breaks.
- The calendar is approved by the Executive Yuan and published by 30 June for the following year, or by 31 August at the latest. It binds government agencies; private employers follow the Labor Standards Act and agree days off with their staff.

2028: not published yet
The office calendar for the next year is normally published by 30 June, and by 31 August at the latest. We add it once it is out; until then, dates in that year show as not published.
What these dates don't cover
- Private employers. They follow the Labor Standards Act and can arrange substitute days off differently from government agencies.
- Indigenous peoples' festivals, for which members of each people choose three days off.
- Agencies that run around the clock, such as hospitals, police and transport, which set their own rosters.

- It is the government's calendar. Most offices follow it closely, but private employers apply the Labor Standards Act and may handle substitute days differently.
- When will the 2028 calendar be known?
- It is normally published by 30 June 2027, and by 31 August 2027 at the latest.
