How it works
- Each place's days come from the same official calendars as the rest of the site, including makeup workdays and, for Russia, days shortened by an hour.
- A day counts when every place is working on that local date. A makeup Saturday counts as a working day; a holiday or weekend anywhere does not.
- Shared hours compare everyone's local working hours on a day they all work, converted through each place's time zone on that date, so daylight saving time in the US and the UK is taken into account. Countries spanning several zones are split by city.
- The link in your address bar keeps your choices, so you can send the comparison to a colleague.
Countries and regions covered
These have their own page with the full calendar and sources:
Also in this tool:
- United States: federal holidays as observed by federal employees, in four time zones (Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific). OPM: Federal Holidays 2028 (5 U.S.C. 6103, as amended 17 June 2021)
- United Kingdom: bank holidays for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, which differ. GOV.UK: UK bank holidays (bank-holidays.json)
- Japan: government offices, which close on national holidays and from 29 December to 3 January. 内閣府:国民の祝日について(syukujitsu.csv)
- Singapore: public holidays; a Sunday holiday moves to Monday. Ministry of Manpower: Public holidays
What it doesn't know
- Years that are not published yet. Days from then on show as not published and are not counted.
- Company calendars. Many employers add days off, work on Saturdays or close for longer around a festival; ask your counterpart.
- Different working hours in each place. The tool applies the same local hours everywhere; change them to match the strictest office.
- State and regional holidays. The US list is federal only, and some Russian regions add their own days off.
Questions
- Why does a makeup Saturday count as a common working day?
- Because offices on that calendar are open that day. If the other places are working too — rare, since it is a Saturday — it is a day everyone works.
- Why do mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan show the same hours?
- All three use UTC+8, so their working hours line up exactly. Their days off still differ.
- Can I compare more than five places?
- Not yet. Five keeps the day-by-day view readable on a phone.
- Why does the United States only show federal holidays?
- Federal holidays are the one nationwide list the government publishes. States add their own days and private employers choose theirs, so check with your counterpart for anything beyond the federal list.
