How Singapore's public holidays work
- The public holidays are New Year's Day, two days of Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Good Friday, Labour Day, Vesak Day, Hari Raya Haji, National Day (9 August), Deepavali and Christmas Day.
- Most follow lunar or religious calendars, so their dates move from year to year. In 2027 Chinese New Year falls on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February.
- When a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday after is a public holiday. In 2026 Vesak Day, National Day and Deepavali all fall on Sundays, so 1 June, 10 August and 9 November are days off.
- A holiday on a Saturday gets no weekday off in the official list; in 2027 that happens to Labour Day and Christmas Day. Employers instead give employees another day off or extra pay, so practice varies from one office to the next.

Days that differ from mainland China
Singapore and mainland China share New Year's Day, Labour Day and the start of the Lunar New Year, but Singapore gives two days for Chinese New Year where the mainland gives about a week, and it works through Qingming, the Dragon Boat and Mid-Autumn festivals and the National Day week. The table lists every date on which one side works and the other does not.
In 2027 both sides work on the same 237 days. On 27 other days only one side is at work: 11 when mainland China works and Singapore does not, 16 the other way round.

Planning work between Singapore and China
- Singapore uses UTC+8 with no daylight saving time, like Beijing, so office hours line up completely on any day both sides work.
- Chinese New Year: Singapore is back after two days, plus a Monday in lieu when one of them is a Sunday, while the mainland stays off for about a week. A Singapore office may be chasing a mainland supplier that is still closed.
- Mainland makeup workdays fall on Saturdays and Sundays, when Singapore offices are closed.
- Good Friday, Hari Raya Puasa, Vesak Day, Hari Raya Haji, National Day, Deepavali and Christmas are Singapore holidays on which the mainland normally works.
- Regional teams are often split between Singapore and Hong Kong, whose holidays differ as well; the team overlap tool compares both with the mainland at once.
2028: not announced yet
The Ministry of Manpower announces each year's public holidays in advance, usually around the middle of the year before. We add a year once it is announced; until then, its dates show as not published.
What these dates don't cover
- Saturday holidays. They get no weekday off in the official list, and employers handle them differently.
- Company calendars. Some employers give extra time off, for example on the eve of Chinese New Year.
- Polling Day. A general election day is a public holiday, but it is only known once the election is called.
Questions
- How long is Chinese New Year in Singapore?
- Two public holidays, the first and second days of the lunar year. If one falls on a Sunday, the Monday after is also off: in 2027 the holidays are on a Saturday and a Sunday, and Monday 8 February is the day in lieu.
- What happens when a holiday falls on a Saturday?
- No weekday is added to the official list. Employers give eligible employees another day off or extra pay instead.
- Does Singapore have makeup workdays like mainland China?
- No. Weekends are never turned into working days.
- Is Polling Day included?
- Only once it is announced. A general election day is a public holiday, but its date is not known in advance.
